WEST END HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• A high school Senior who has been accepted at an accredited college/university.
• A fulltime undergraduate student (a minimum of twelve semester hours) enrolled in an accredited college/university.

SPONSOR: (Not required for the Lewis R. Marshall Sports Scholarship)

Applicant must have a relative (example:  parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle, etc.) that is a paid member of a local chapter and the National for more than one year before he or she can be nominated for a scholarship.

HOW TO APPLY:

Complete application with all required attachments and submit to Scholarship Committee no later than April 30.

ATTACHMENTS: (All attachments must be typed)

• Official transcript from high school or college/university.
• 300-word Essay typed, doubled spaced and in good manuscript form addressing the question on page two (2) of the application.
• Two (2) personal letters of recommendation written within the last 12 months.
• Letter of college acceptance, if high school senior.
• Proof of income (most recent W-2 or 1099 form).

Incomplete applications or failure to provide any of the documents listed above may result in the application not being considered.

Do not include additional information such as resumes, other letters of recommendations, etc.

PROCESS FOR DISBURSING THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS:

The scholarship awards will be disbursed directly to the recipient once the student’s proof of enrollment/registration has been submitted and verified. Recipient and parent(s)/guardian agree to reimburse the WEHS National Alumni Association the full amount of the scholarship award, if for any reason, the recipient does not attend college during the upcoming school year.

SELECTION PROCESS:

A Scholarship Committee, comprised of a Chairperson, appointed by the National President and representatives from the three local chapters will review and rank the scholarship applications and recommend the prospective awardees to the West End High National Executive Board for endorsement.  Recommendations for a scholarship award will be based on the following factors:

•  Quality of Essay
•  GPA
•  Personal Recommendations
•  Extracurricular Activities
•  Need
•  Previous WEHS Awards
